Just want to add that, as STUPID, as this sounds...

I like the feeling in this shot that Phil is somehow especially present in the situation while he is photographing something.

I always hear people saying that if you aren't careful, using a camera will result in not really being "present" in a situation. The thought is that you are too busy trying to record the moment to actually enjoy it while you're in it.

I think there IS some truth to that, although as a photographer, I think it can also, if done currectly, AID in enjoying a moment. I find myself really soaking things in more as I take in my surroundings looking for good photos. It's kind of the way studying architecture helps you notice the buildings around you more.

I feel this photo really captures that because Fil, in his concentrating on being steady for the shot, is the only one in focus and everyone else is all blurry.

The opposite of this would have been if Sara and Kurt were sharp, and Fil was blurry, which would have reinforced the negative aspect of the above idea.

But that isn't what I shot. I shot a picture that backed up my feelings. And it was all coincidental.
